St Andrew’s Academy Residential provision will be closing as of Friday 27th June 2025.
There are two main reasons for the need to close the provision. Firstly, Derby City Council (DCC) are unable to enhance the funding in line with the current funding costs and refurbishment requirements. The Residential Provision is Non-Statutory and has been funded through the Education High Needs Block. This body of funds is significantly over spent and unable to provide the funding required to run and refurb the Residential environment in line with Ofsted National Minimum Care standards.
Secondly, the demand for education day school placements far outstrips our supply. St Andrew’s Academy numbers on roll have doubled in the last 10 years, with no new classroom space being built. DCC have requested a further increase from 155 to 170 in September, resulting in the need to convert the Residential Building into classroom and subject based learning space.
The provision is required to close ahead of the Summer Holidays in order for the significant building works to be completed for our return on Monday 8th September 2025.
