This term, our home learning on this Music page is going to be based on a piece of music called The Carnival of the Animals, by the French composer Camille Saint-Saens. Each week, I will upload a music video and activities related to one (or sometimes two) of the animals in the music. I hope you enjoy watching the videos, singing along to some of the songs that you will probably know, and having a go at some of the activities.
Saint-Saens wrote The Carnival of the Animals as a joke! He never wanted people to hear it, and never expected it be published and become so famous. It comprises 14 short sections, and a short poem has been written to go with each section. The poem is very silly and doesn't really make much sense, but it is quite funny.
This week, I'd like you to listen to the whole of The Carnival of the Animals - it is about 20 minutes long.
Then, from next week, we'll break it down to one or two animals each week. You can either hear it straight through without the poem, using the first YouTube video. Or there is a fun version by Bugs and Daffy, which contains most but not quite all of the animals.
